About the Fund.
Who We Are.
Founded in 2003, the Wayzata Education Fund (WEF) is an all volunteer, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that supports the students and staff of Wayzata Public Schools.
This includes all WPS Teachers, Staff, Administration and 13,000+ students across all 15 district schools.
Mission & Vision.
To raise funds that enrich and support the educational experience for students and staff within the Wayzata Public School District. WEF does this by funding initiatives in line with the WPS Strategic Roadmap and providing grants and funding for programs outside the district budget.
Since 2003, WEF has awarded over $600,000 in grants back into the district, with almost half of that awarded in the last 5 years.
WHY DOES WAYZATA NEED AN ED FUND?
The Wayzata Education Fund provides supplemental funds for innovative educational ideas which otherwise may not be supported. Funds raised by WEF augment the school district revenues provided by taxpayers, state aid, and other public funding sources.
Is this unique to Wayzata?
No. Minnesota has over 35 public school districts with education funds or foundations.
Contributions made to a PTA/PTO stay at that specific school to fund supplies and services.
Contributions to the Ed Fund support all 15 Wayzata Public Schools and are used to fund a wider variety of programming.
How is this different from a PTO/PTA?
District residents, Wayzata alumni, and the parents of current or past students are eligible to be on the board of the Wayzata Education Fund.
Can anyone be on the WEF board?
