GRANT SPOTLIGHT: KIMBERLY LANE

Thanks to a $10,000 WEF Grant, Kimberly Lane Elementary added visual communication boards to both of their playgrounds over the summer. These boards promote inclusion, by enabling non-verbal children to initiate conversations, join group play, and form friendships by making communication easier with peers and staff

GRANT SPOTLIGHT: BIRCHVIEW

Thanks to a $13,000 WEF Grant, Birchview was able to purchase decodable readers that reflect a range of identities and diverse experiences. These readers put “Science of Reading” best practices into action by reinforcing students' phonetic knowledge, building strong content knowledge and helping them acquire robust vocabulary skills. Additionally, accessible texts help students who receive Tier 3 instruction (reading intervention) practice, apply and transfer their learning into authentic texts to develop a mastery of reading.

GRANT SPOTLIGHT: EARLY LEARNING

Thanks to a $6,800 WEF Grant, approximately 700 students, from infancy through age 5, will benefit from new adaptive bikes and large blocks in the motor room space. The Early Learning center is focused on coordination of gross motor skills, cooperative play, turn taking, participation in group activities, executive functioning/planning, and providing new experiences that will strengthen and foster imaginative and motor play.
